Meet Mr. Georgia Tech 2015 Henderson Johnson II

How are you connected to OMED?

I've been connected to OMED in so many ways. I was an Edge leader and tutor for two years. I was actively involved in the Edge program when I was a freshman. OMED has been an integral part of my time here at Georgia Tech!

What advice would you give to students on succeeding academically?

Do not do it alone. Nowhere in the rulebook of life and/or Tech does it say you have to go through alone. Except for tests. Other people are your greatest resources. Upperclassmen have done what you are doing, so reach out to them for help and advice.

What advice would you give to students on acclimating socially?

Start small. You don't need to have the largest group of friends. Having one or two friends who go through similar experiences with you is enough, and the nature of knowing just one person is that you more than likely will meet someone new and expand your network that way.

Where have you worked, and what did you enjoy about that experience?

I have worked for The Boeing Company the past three summers in various divisions across the country. I enjoyed the opportunity to see the various business units within the company and apply some of the knowledge I gained of the years to my actual job.

What has been your favorite Georgia Tech experience?

Besides becoming Mr. Georgia Tech, I really couldn't identify one favorite. Every single experience has been invaluable to be honest.

What are you involved with on campus, and why?

GTSBE, ODK, Undergraduate Research, LSAMP, Georgia Tech Student Ambassadors, The Black Burdell... the list goes on and on. Everything I do on campus is dedicated to the love of my community and Tech, as well as making each of them better.

What has been your study abroad experience?

Through the Denning Technology and Management Program, I was able to go on a weeklong trip where we explored European Energy Policy. We visited Brussels, Paris, and a city in Germany, as well as a free day in Amsterdam.

What are your plans after graduation?

I am working on my Ph.D. at Georgia Tech in Aerospace Engineering, focusing on Propulsion and Combustion.
